Mark Ingram's East 56th Street salon opened
in November 2001. It's small, private and
carries an edited selection of designers'
gowns. "It dictates the way we do business,"
says Ingram, one of the most affable shop
owners in town. One the experience: "Come
to the salon mentally and emotionally
prepared. Do your homework. Have the wedding
date and a budget set."
On the dress: Before you go, know what
designers, or at least what looks, you like.
Although even then, Ingram says, "A bride in
her mind may be built to wear something
sleek and sexy, but really needs a gown with
foundation in it."Which brings us to the
next pointƒ.
On trust: "Really have an open mind. A
bride who trusts her consultant may not have
found her dress yet, but still knows she'll
buy it from that salon. It's a vibe she
gets."
On decision-making: "Only bring a small
number of people with you„those you
appreciate and respect the most. Otherwise,
it will be fruitless."
Pet Peeves: Brides who forgo
undergarments. "Wear underwear! And make
sure it's clean!" says Ingram, laughing." Be
a lady and come in wearing your best
lingerie."
